A downloadable game

For my High School capstone project in 2017, I created a small video game within Blender to demonstrate how video games and concepts therein could be used to enhance learning.

Tide Typer is a typing game set in Colonial Florida to teach both history and typing to young learners. Unlike many other typing games, this game gives the control to the player to decide how they got to each checkpoint through the various commands they could type.

Your goal is to deliver as much cargo as you can by picking up/dropping off cargo at each port (green box). As the ship speeds up with each check point, how high can you get your score before you run out of hearts?

All controls are through typing. Once the game launches, simply click to start playing. Right Click or relaunch to restart. ESC to close!

Controls:

Directions:

  • port: left
  • starboard: right

Steering: (press return/enter after inputting)

  • veer [direction] : Sharp turn port or starboard
  • turn [direction] : Medium turn port or starboard
  • list [direction]: Slight turn port or starboard
  • boing: Make the ship jump! (Good for getting out of a jam!)

Ex. Type "veer port" and then press enter to sharply turn left!

Looking: (press space after inputting)

  • ad or da: look left
  • k; or ;k: look right
  • jf or fj: reset looking position

Made In Blender 2.78 Game Engine (I don't recommend doing this, see last screenshot for why).

Once downloaded, extract the zip file to an appropriate folder. After extracted, go into the folder and run the TideTyper executable (TideTyper.exe). The game should launch from there! Press ESC when you want to close it.
